Keith Olbermann abruptly fired by NBC
Olbermann's show Countdown, which screened at 8pm and repeated at 11pm, was the network's top-rated programme. On Thursday the show attracted 1.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, far ahead of CNN's Parker-Spitzer, which managed just 520,000 in the same time slot. Fox News's Bill O'Reilly – a frequent target of Olbermann's ire – dominated the hour with 2.9 million viewers.

O'Brien gets GOP nomination for Speaker of the House - Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010
O'Brien, 59, is an attorney who was just elected to his third term in the House. Much of his support comes from the right wing of the GOP. He serves as co-chair of the conservative House Republican Alliance. He also had the endorsement of the Republican Liberty Alliance of New Hampshire.
During his first four years in the House, O'Brien pushed for reform of ethics laws for public officials; constitutional amendment to reform education funding; reforms and changes in the state's right-to-know law.
O'Brien opposed gay marriage and what he called the "unneeded and dangerous" bathroom bill on transgender rights.
He has sponsored two bills that would allow use of the death penalty for murders committed during home invasions.
Items on the HRA agenda this year include tax cuts, tax credits for home and private schooling, repeal of gay marriage, passage of a parental notification act, tougher immigration enforcement and joining a lawsuit to block federal healthcare reform.O'Brien gets GOP nomination for Speaker of the House - Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010Related articles

US Rep. Barney Frank Speaks to Blade
Blade: Have you heard of anything about a Log Cabin supported gay-related tax reform bill? They won’t give us any details but the head of Log Cabin says that’s the first thing they’re going to work on next year and he thinks they might get Republican support.
Frank: If they’re suggesting that there will be Republican support for recognition of same-sex marriage that’s a lie and they know it. There’s no chance of that.
Blade: I asked them about that and he wouldn’t give me details but —
Frank: Yes, the Log Cabin club would like to make it easier for taxing – they would like to reduce taxes for rich people. I understand that. But there will be no help for gay people. Now for some of them, I think their income is skewed pretty high anyway. So they’ll feel good about it. But, no, there is zero chance that the Republicans will do anything that would recognize same-sex couples. Read full exchange at the Washington Blade...

Gays: Wake up and smell the GOP apathy
Cenk To Gays: What Part Of This Don’t You Understand? The GOP Just Isn’t That Into You
MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur gets it 99% right: The GOP just isn’t that into us, the Democrats are caving, the GOP thinks we live in sin. Scalia really wrote that? “Gay voters, wake up, and smell the hate.” http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/cenk-to-gays-what-part-of-this-dont-you-understand-the-gop-just-isnt-that-into-you/discrimination/2010/11/10/15008?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed:+TheNewCivilRightsMovement+(The+New+Civil+Rights+Movement)Related articles

Elderly voters the biggest push behind the GOP wave « The Washington Independent
Combine the swing among seniors with the fact that young people largely stayed home from the polls last Tuesday, and the landslide seem less like a shift in the national opinion and more like the product of simple demographic mathematics.
