(AP) — Just a couple of weeks ago, the momentum to legalize gay marriage in New York appeared to be an irresistible force, teed up to reinvigorate the flagging national effort. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he would devote his popular clout and considerable power to guide the first unified effort by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender advocates in the state to legalize same-sex marriage, and raise $1 million to support lawmakers who cast the dicey vote.

Since then, the conservative and religious opposition has struck back in a big, unexpected way."

Knox Film raises doubts about Amanda's Innocence

After watching the movie, I may not have actually changed my mind about her innocence -- but for the first time, I sure have doubts.

That's not because it is one-sided.

Despite what you may have heard, it isn't. Everything is taken from witness and trial testimony and transcript.

The American student's appeals trial opened on Wednesday in the Italian medieval city of Perugia, with lawyers hoping they can use new evidence to clear her in the killing of her British roommate.

Rudy Guede, an unemployed man from Ivory Coast, was also convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher. The case is also forming the basis for a film currently being shot in Italy entitled 'The Amanda Knox Story', with American actress Hayden Panettiere cast as Amanda Knox.

APPEALS PROCESS COULD TAKE 1 YEAR

Today marks the first day of American co-ed Amanda Knox's Appeal Trial contesting her murder conviction in December 2009. The photos, courtesy of Zimbio, show Amanda leaving the court session this afternoon.

Knox's parents told the Associated Press that they are hoping this appeal will result in their daughter's release. The appeal is an attempt to overturn Amanda's conviction for the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the slaying.

Knox's parents maintain that Amanda had no motive to kill her roommate, and that the prosecution neither proved motive nor produced evidence against their daughter.

The UK Telegraph says the appeals process could take as long as a year, and that on Thanksgiving Thurs., 20 of Knox's family and friends will gather for a meal in Perugia, while Amanda sits in her prison cell.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/italy/8157000/Amanda-Knox-appeal-could-last-a-year.html
